Elizabeth Ann ("Betty") Campbell

Elizabeth ("Betty") Ann Campbell, 84, of Hilton Head Island, SC, died peacefully on January 19, 2017 at home in the loving company of her family. Born on May 23, 1932 in Ardmore, PA, she was the daughter of Arnold and Elizabeth Mary (Denver) Peck. She often reminisced about her wonderful childhood spent in Pennsylvania with her extended family. Betty was an accomplished violinist and organist in her youth. She worked as a laboratory technician at Misericordia Hospital in Philadelphia. Betty married her beloved husband, BGEN John Douglas Campbell, PA Air National Guard, on April 19, 1958. Betty enjoyed spending weekends and summers boating with Doug and their two daughters on the Chesapeake Bay. She retired with Doug to Hilton Head Island in 1988 and was a founding member of the South Carolina Yacht Club. Betty enjoyed boating, golfing, reading, and could make any plant grow beautifully. She was predeceased by her brother Richie and her husband. Betty spent the last 25 years as a widow with her characteristic poise and grace. Betty is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Douglas) Nowell of Gordonsville, VA and Sally (Seth) Powell of Chestertown, MD; grandchildren Thomas and Michael Proctor of Ulster County, NY, and William, Abigail, and Lindsay Powell of Chestertown, MD. She also enjoyed Betsy's stepdaughters Kelly Proctor, Bonnie and Caroline Nowell, and Betsy's granddaughter Jade Hardin. Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton, SC is assisting the family. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis of the Sea Catholic Church, 45 Beach City Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926 on Thursday February 9 at 10:30AM. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9:30AM until the start of the service. All are invited to a reception in the parish hall immediately following the service. A private burial will take place at Beaufort National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that remembrances be made to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, 119 Palmetto Way, PO BOX 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910.
