ELIZABETH ENGLISH LOWTHER passed away at home on September 20, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was born in Savannah, Georgia on January 11, 1982 and was a life-long resident of Jasper County. Her ancestors were some of the original settlers in the old Great Swamp community and are buried in the Sardis Cemetery in Ridgeland. She was proud to bear the name of her great grandmother Lowther and, as a little girl, loved to ride with her granddaddy to Cowpens and return with bushels of S.C. peaches for everyone.
She was a beautiful, sweet-natured girl who had compassion for others. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved music and knew the words to every song. She sang a solo in church at the age of 3 and never stopped singing at family reunions, local competitions and in church. She loved animals and managed to adopt a puppy from a shelter as a young teenager, paying all the fees and surprising her family with the birthday gift she bought herself. As an adult, she worked at her family’s business and helped take care of her two nephews. She was caring and generous with her friendship to others. She loved her family and told them often.
She is survived by her parents Clark and Marie Lowther of Ridgeland, a brother Clayton Lowther, Jr., and two sisters April Lowther and Amelia “Kitt” Lowther. She has many aunts, uncles and cousins and had great memories of the times they spent together.
She had suffered for awhile from a chronic illness, which was taking its toll on her; however she could always find an easy smile. She will be remembered by her family for the music she loved, especially the message of her favorite Christmas song, “And tho’ I stumble and fall, I can hear someone call—do not despair—His star is still there.”
