Elmer L. Wilkes

Elmer L. Wilkes, 90, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Aurora, OH died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Veterans' Victory House in Walterboro, SC. Mr. Wilkes was born on December 10, 1924 in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late John and Catherine D. Wilkes. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and a Purple Heart recipient. He was the owner of Broadlee Southgate Dental Lab for many years where he worked as a Dental Technician. He was a devout Catholic and while living in Bluffton, was a parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Mr. Wilkes was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Ethel Toth Wilkes. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Wilkes-Kovalik (Jim) of Bluffton, SC, Gayle Mayher (Frank) of Bluffton, SC, and Mary Jo Weber (Joe) of Strongsville, OH. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 27, 2015 at St. Andrew's Chapel, Pinckney Colony Road, Bluffton, SC 29909. Additionally, a funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 10, 2015 at St. Andrew Abbey, 10510 Buckeye Road, Cleveland, OH 44104. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to any charity of choice.
