Elton Osborne "˜Jep' Smith, 87 of Grays, SC passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at his home. He was born in Grays, SC on January 8, 1927 to the late F. Wilson and Ethel Jones Smith.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II. After the war he was Cadre of the SC National Guard at the Ridgeland Armory. He was retired from the Palmetto Electric Co-op after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Pine Level Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He loved the outdoors especially fresh water bass fishing. He could fix anything.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Tuten Smith of Grays, SC; one daughter, Sarah Smith Clemens (Jimmy) of Grays, SC and one sister, Ina S. Reed (Mike) of Grays, SC. He was predeceased by his brothers, F. W. Smith, Rufus W. "˜Dick' Smith and Neil Smith and his sisters, Evelyn Wilburn, Jeanette Johnson and Neva Smith.
The family will receive friends at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland, SC from 11:00 am until Noon on Friday, December 19, 2014. A graveside service will be held immediately following at Phillipsville Cemetery, Grays, SC.
