It is with great sadness that the Brown and Jones families announce that English Caroline Jones Brown of Bluffton, SC passed away on July 9, 2025.
Born on October 27, 1964 in Charleston, SC. “Awoogie,” as her nieces and nephews affectionately called her, was the cherished daughter of George Earl Jones and Dorothy Harrison Jones. She graduated from High Point Central High School in 1982 and went on to earn a degree in Psychology from Erskine College, Class of 1986. English’s career reflected a passion for service and learning, from her early work as a Team Leader at American Express to her role as Coordinator of Training at Disney. She shared her love of education as a Library Aide and Computer Lab Instructor at Michael C. Riley and Hilton Head Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless students. She continued her passion by being a Job Coach at Bluffton High School and later, May River High School until her retirement in 2024.
English had a deep love for her two therapy dogs, Sinatra and Frank. She dedicated her time training them to visit countless individuals and students, bringing comfort and healing to many people. Her adventurous streak led her to be a seasoned traveler. English became a skilled Destination Lecturer with Silversea and Seabourn Cruise Line. By sharing her insights and stories from her global travels, she inspired many others to experience joy alongside her. This love for travel extended well beyond her work and she visited more than 50 countries with her husband, David.
Her legacy lives on not only through the stories she loved to share, but also by remembering the compassion she so freely gave to those around her. Her friends and family will especially remember these qualities.
English is survived by her husband, David R. Brown of 26 years, and stepdaughter, Caitlin E. Brown (Adrian Green); her father, George Earl Jones (A.C.); her sisters, Beth Shuler (Hoke), Darby Howell (Jeff), and Camden Jones (Wesley King); niece, English Shuler (Emerson Vardon); nephews, Nick Peeples (Cali), Morgan Howell (Elisha), Hoke Shuler, and Raleigh Howell; great-nephew, Jaxson Howell (Morgan and Elisha); and great-nieces, Delta Vardon (English and Emerson) and Yuna Peeples (Nick and Cali).
