Ernest R. Barefield

Ernest R. Barefield, 79, of Bluffton, SC passed away on September 8th, 2016 at Hilton Head Hospital, Hilton Head Island, SC. Ernie was born in Rahway, NJ on May 26th 1937. He graduated from Turbeville High School and continued on to receive his degree in accounting from Wofford College where he was a member of the football team and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Ernie was married to Barbara on June 12th; they were married for 56 years. Ernie served in the United States Army for 2 years as a part of the intelligence branch. After his service, he worked as an Accountant for Arthur Andersen LLP for 18 years. He enjoyed watching sports, being an active member of his church community, and spending time with his family. Ernie is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Dawn, granddaughters Jordan, Hannah and Taylor, grandson Caleb, and other family and friends. Ernie was preceded in death by his son, Marc Barefield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Community Bible Church, 638 Parris Island Gateway, Beaufort, SC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC.
