Ernestine Mccormack Cooler

August 30, 1930 — July 23, 2015

Our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother Ernestine McCormack Cooler passed away peacefully with her family at her side on July 23, 2015 at the age of 84. She was born in Ridgeland, South Carolina on August 30, 1930 to Arthur John McCormack and Rosalie Malphrus McCormack Sutherland. Ernie lived in Ridgeland, S.C. for most of her life and later moved to Columbia, S.C. where she graduated from Columbia High School. She married Marion McTeer Cooler on Christmas Eve in 1949. They moved to Okatie, S.C. where they raised two daughters and were married for 60 years. Ernie loved life and was always serving others. Her compassion extended beyond her family and friends to those in the community. She had a radiant smile and a love for everyone she came in contact with. Ernie was a member of Maye River Baptist Church and served as choir director there for many years. She loved to sing and had the voice of an angel. She was employed with the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, S.C. as a housing inspector and retired after many years of dedicated service. Ernie was a devoted wife and mother who always supported her husband, girls, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marion Cooler, brothers - Alva McCormack and Jack Lee Sutherland. She is survived by her daughters: Dianne C. Youngblood (Jerry) and Susan C. Lowther (Mark); grandchildren: Mark Allen Lowther, Jr. (Julia), Ashley Youngblood Harvell (Steve), Ryan Christopher Lowther (Cindy), Anne Youngblood Doe (Daniel), Lora Leigh Lowther Nash (Joseph), Zachary Daniel Lowther and 18 great-grandchildren. Our heartfelt thanks to Emma Jo Busby, her loving niece and caregiver, who cared for her while in S.C. Many thanks to her husband John, JoAnna Waldhour, Emma Cooler, and Eleanor Wyndham. Many thanks to her physician Dr. Diana Nims and her staff for their kindness and excellent care while in Kentucky. Our gratitude to Hospice and Travel MD of Huntington, WV for their support and care: Jo, Tina, Robin, Michelle, Lea, and Sarah. Funeral services will be held at Maye River Baptist Church located at 3507 Okatie Hwy, Okatie, S.C. 29909 on July 28, 2015 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
