Ethel Mae Grant, age 83, of Bluffton, SC, peacefully fell asleep in death on May 24, 2025, at her home.
Born on August 11, 1941, in Bluffton, SC, Ethel was a woman of poise and grace. She was known as a great cook and fashionista with a great sense of style and humor, and many loved her. She worked for Beaufort County Public Schools and in the hospitality industry until she retired at age 65. After retirement, she enjoyed cooking for her family, shopping, vacationing with her daughters, and babysitting her great-grandchildren until she could no longer.
Ethel was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 2007 and remained a devoted and faithful servant of Jehovah until the end.
Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, Ernestine and James Simmons, Sr., husband, Richard Grant, Sr., three daughters, Deborah Grant, Onetta Fennell, and Elizabeth Grant, one brother, James Simmons, Jr., two grandchildren, and two uncles.
Ethel leaves to cherish fond memories four daughters, Sharon Grant, Bluffton, SC; Beatrice Brown, Okatie, SC and Deneen Jackson (Edward) and Yolanda Terry (Edgar Mixon), Savannah, GA; and three sons, Willie Simmons, Lakeland, FL, Lorne Grant, Indiana, IN and Richard Grant, Jr. (Laverne), Savannah, GA. One sister, Sarah Washington, Levy, SC; Thirty-two grandchildren; Seventy-eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, George Grant, Fayetteville, NC; sister-in-law, Mary Simmons, Savannah, GA; one Aunt, Rose Ella Bryant, Charlotte, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Lastly, two special friends, Anna Mae Murray and Allaphae Barnwell.
The Memorial service will be held on June 7, 2025, at 4:00 pm at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 119 Bluffton Road, SC 29910.
