Ethel Sherman Mark passed away March 17, 2016 in Sun City, Bluffton, South Carolina, at age 88. She wished to say goodbye to and thank all of her friends and the community for making the last years of her life so much fun and pleasurable. Her husband of 66 years, Saul J. Mark, passed away 3 years ago. Ethel lived the first 78 years of her life in the New York City area. She grew up in a Jewish immigrant family in the Bronx. She and Saul raised their family in Great Neck, N.Y., where she taught high school Spanish and other languages for 40 years. After an early retirement, Ethel pursued a new acting career in movies and television. She was proud to become a member of the Screen Actors Guild and had a variety of parts in assorted industrial films, community theater and extra parts in movies, television soap operas and MTV videos. In Sun City she felt a strong sense of community. Ethel and Saul were regular bridge players. She participated in Sun City community theatre where recently she was fortunate to play the part of Yentl in Fiddler on the Roof and to rehearse the role of Hold-Me Touch-Me in the current production of The Producers. She was blessed by her friendships and neighbors too numerous to name. Thank you! A special thanks to her hematologist, Dr. Gary Thomas and his staff, who treated her for several years with great skill and kindness. She is survived by her three children (Toby Miller, David Mark and Claudia Simon), their spouses (Ken Miller, Nancy Renn and Andrew Simon) and her 5 grandchildren (Brian Miller, Samantha Simon, Jennie Renn, Alison Miller and Joanna Simon), all of whom will eternally love and admire her.
