Eulalie Cooler Simmons, 90, widow of Hoyt Simmons, died Saturday, November 1, 2008 after a long illness.She was born in Ridgeland, SC on July 8, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Walter Russell and Lela Corene Smith Cooler.After graduation, she lived in Charleston, SC where she worked for the Port of Embarkation as a secretary. She married the late Hoyt Simmons Sr. and they were married 49 years. She was a devoted wife and mother.She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she belonged to the Willie Davis Sunday School class and she was a former member of the Ridgeland Baptist Church. An avid gardener, she was a former member of the Honeysuckle Garden Club and a former member of the Swansea Garden Club.Survivors include her son, George Hoyt Simmons Jr. and his wife, Janice of Columbia; grandson, Ashby C. Simmons of Columbia; Sisters, Edna C. Hall and Evelyn C. Mathis of St. Augustine, FL and Micki C. Morris of Columbia and several nieces and nephews. She predeceased by a brother, W. Russell Cooler Jr. and nephew, W. Russell Cooler III.Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland, SC with burial in the Ridgeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm on Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.Sauls Funeral Home of Ridgeland, SC is assisting the family with their arrangements.
