Eva Nell Horry

March 9, 1935 — February 17, 2022

Eva Nell Horry, 86, passed away on February 17, 2022,  in Port Royal, South Carolina.  She was born a twin (with Edna Belle) on March 9 th , 1935 in Laurel Hill, Florida to the late Nannie Orene Fleming and Wilburn Dewitt Fleming.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Fripp Horry, her parents, and numerous brothers and sisters:  Agnes Pauline Hadden, Jessie Brenton Fleming, Bennie Fleming, Edna Belle Fleming, Betty Ruth Pinckney, Shirley Ann Nielsen, Nannie Faye Dallons, Billy Ray Fleming, and special friend, Charlie Heins.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Horry Schonhoff (Randy), brother Wilburn Jonathon Fleming, sister Lottie Orene Alford, sister Linda Kay Henderson, and two beautiful granddaughters, Chelsea Rand (Tyler), and Dr. Aubrey Schonhoff.

Eva married Marion Fripp Horry in 1957 and they enjoyed 41 years together, much of that time traveling with the United States Air Force, from which Marion retired.  After retirement, they settled in Okatie, South Carolina where Eva’s career was office manager for Beaufort Jasper Water and Sewer Authority.

For the last twenty-three years after her husband’s death, Eva enjoyed spending time with her special friend, Charlie Heins.  Every day for those 23 years, Charlie and Eva spent time together visiting friends, maintaining her pine tree farm and enjoying an ice cream from Brusters.

Eva loved softball, bowling, gardening, and watching her beautiful wildlife.  Her property was rich with beautiful plants and fruit trees, as well as many “critters” she enjoyed watching and feeding.  She loved living right on the Chechessee River, enjoying joy riding on the river and the great variety of seafood it offered.  Eva’s love of birds led to her being a founding member of the Jasper County Audubon Society.

As a longtime member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Eva also served on the Altar Guild for many years and was the Church Treasurer for several years as well.  She was also a member of the Ivy Garden Club.

A Celebration of Eva’s life is planned for Monday, February 21, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Church of the Holy Trinity in Grahamville with Father Jay officiating.  She will be laid to rest in Grahamville Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland.
