Evert G. Nelson

October 1, 1927 — November 4, 2018

Evert G. Nelson, age 91, of Hilton Head, SC and formerly of Sun City, SC and Syracuse, NY died Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Preston Health Center.

Mr. Nelson was born on October 1, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Gustav and Lily Nelson.  He was a graduate of Brooklyn Polytechnic where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering.  Following his formal education he began his career with the phone company. Later he worked for the Sperry Corporation, and continued his career working on the Lunar Module for the space program.  He retired from the Department of Defense working as a Defense Contract Analyst.  While living in the low country, he was active within the Sun City community and was a founding member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed woodworking , hand carving, model ship building, traveling, and camping.  He was active in the Boy Scouts of America holding the position of Scout Leader.

Mr. Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Eleanor B. Nelson; daughters Elizabeth Nelson Graydon (Frank) and Ellen Nelson Bybee (Steve), and son Eric Nelson (Julie); sister, Alice Albers; grandchildren, Emily Nelson, Tucker Graydon, Paige Nelson, Kyle Bybee and Travis Bybee.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 351 Buckwalter Parkway, Bluffton, SC 29910.

In lieu of flowers, remember aces may be made to Habitat for Humanity or Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
