Fay Reynolds Woods

Fay Reynolds Woods, 91, died Wednesday, August 07, 2013 at his home in Grays, SC. He was born in Ridgeland, SC on March 14, 1922 to the late Marion and Ethel Malphrus Woods. He was retired from the Civil Service Waterworks Department of Parris Island, SC; also retired from the Jasper County Sheriff's Department, where he served as a special deputy; State Constable and Civil Process Server. He was the first Litter Control Officer for Jasper County; was a member and Deacon of Beaver Dam Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendant for 15 years. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1956. He was a US Army Veteran of Europe who was captured during the Rhineland Campaign in January of 1945 and was taken to Stalag 12 in Limberg Western Germany. He was moved on a troop train to North Central Germany where they were packed in like sardines with no water and little food. After being liberated by the British Army, he returned to the US on the Hospital ship USS Huddleston, arriving in Charleston, SC at the end of the war. He was an avid Fisherman, Braves fan and he enjoyed camping. Mr. Woods was married for over fifty years to his first wife Debbie Peeples Woods who passed away in 1997. He married Elizabeth Patrick Varn Woods in 2001. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Patrick Varn Woods of Grays, SC; daughter, Faye L. (Don) Jarrell of Grays, SC; grandchildren, Donna Jarrell, Vickie Jarrell, Mark (Stephanie) Jarrell; great grandchildren, Ashley Jarrell, Katie Ingram and Haley Ingram; sister in law, Earline Rivers; stepsons, Sidney Varn, Jr. of Lexington, SC; Jimmy Varn of Ridgeland, SC; stepdaughters, Janet Miley of Grays Hill, SC; Linda Owens of Varnville, SC; Cindy Jarrell of Simpsonville, SC and several step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth, Lanier "Ben", and Richard Woods and sisters, Ida Lee Cleland, Geraldine Causey, Amerine Bunton, Beatrice Smith and Grace Vest. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, August 9, 2013 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with burial with military honors following in the church cemetery. Sauls Funeral Home of Ridgeland is assisting the family with their arrangements.
