Florrie Catterton Nettles

Florrie Catterton Nettles, 93, passed away on March 24, 2016. She was born in Hardeeville, SC on June 28, 1922. Florrie married Wyman Douglas Nettles in San Francisco, CA on April 7, 1945. They lived nearly all of their 62 years of married life together in Ridgeland, SC. After Douglas passed away in 2008,Florrie moved to Knoxville, TN to be near her family. She resided for eight years at Arbor Terrace in Knoxville, where she cultivated many friendships.

Florrie graduated Ridgeland High School in May 1940, and she played on the girls basketball team. She worked for a time at The Citadel in Charleston, SC, and for many years at Barron’s Department Store in Ridgeland. Florrie was an active member of Ridgeland Baptist Church most of her life. She loved and was loved by her family, her friends, and her church. While not particularly fond of cooking, she enjoyed having family and friends at her home. She always was quick with a cup of coffee or a glass of tea.

Florrie is survived by her son Wyman, daughter-in-law Robin, and granddaughter Lauren; daughter in-heart Sharon Morse Ziomek, her husband Stanley C. Ziomek, and daughter SherriZiomek Ingle (Tony); sisters Eunice Catterton Funderburk and Jeanette Catterton Morse; nieces Connie Getsinger Seurynck(Jack), Sandrae Jenness McCorkle, Kathy Jenness Black (Otis),Janet Funderburk Derrick (Paul), and Rosemarie Morse Wilder; nephews Michael W. Funderburk (Jan), Rodney W. Catterton(Faye), and Marvin C. Catterton, Jr.; and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Rosella Cook Catterton (Mama Rose) and William Henry Catterton, sisters Thelma Catterton Jenness and Carrie Catterton Getsinger, and brothers Clarence E. Catterton and Marvin C. Catterton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland with burial in the Ridgeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the funeral home.
