Frances Bentley Schwalbe Cantey, 93, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Wellmore Senior Living on Daniel Island, South Carolina.
Frances was born in Columbus. Georgia, on August 14, 1928. She is preceded in death by her parents, James Berry Bentley and Allie Jackson Bentley, her sister. Dorothy Bentley Peveler, her husband, Herman Louis Schwalbe, and her grandson, Walter Kurt Schwalbe, Jr.
Frances was a graduate of Savannah High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Armstrong State College in Savannah, Georgia, and a master's degree at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. She taught secondary level social studies in Georgia, South Carolina, Wisconsin, and Florida before she retired and returned to Bluffton, South Carolina.
Frances is survived by her husband of twenty-five years, Bryant Whitfield Cantey, and her four children: Charlotte Schwalbe Moore (Tim), Nancy Schwalbe Zydler (Tom), Kurt Schwalbe (Nina). Herman Schwalbe (Kathy), six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three stepchildren and three step-grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Bluffton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frances' honor to the School of Education at the University of South Carolina
