Frances Rose (Cottrell) Santanello

Frances Santanello, formerly of Neptune, NJ, passed away peacefully in Bluffton SC, on February 19, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, James “Chip” Santanello.

Frances was born in Manalapan Township, NJ, daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth Cottrell, and sister to the late Elizabeth Boyce and Michelle Cottrell.  She grew up in Freehold, NJ, and graduated from Freehold High School in 1948. She went on to become a Registered Nurse, graduating from Ann May School of Nursing, in 1952. That same year she married her life partner, Chip. Together they made a happy, loving home in Neptune NJ, raising their 4 children.

Frances had a rewarding career as a nurse at Fitkin Hospital, now Jersey Shore Medical Center, for many years. She especially enjoyed her time in Labor and Delivery, helping to bring many local babies into the world. She remained very close to her dear nurse friends from her early training years.

Frances was an avid NY Yankee fan and enjoyed all sports, especially those in which her children and grandchildren participated. She enjoyed reading and puzzles, and she cherished every minute spent with family and friends. She was so happy to make new friends, most recently in South Carolina, after moving in with her daughter Carol. She was a devout Catholic and faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and subsequently Holy Innocents.

Frances had a deep love for family and was always there to support her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. She was our rock. She is remembered by all as a strong, kind, honest, smart, calm, selfless, dignified, and steady presence. She will forever be an inspiration to us all.

Frances is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Carol MacNeil (Chuck), Jeanne Weinstock (Jon), Maria McCarthy (Jim), and her son James Santanello (Joanne). She was beloved grandmother to Michael, Robert, Thomas, Claire, James, Colleen, Rachel, Lauren, Tori, Joseph, and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, David. She is also fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews.
