Francine Kay Huffman

Francine Kay Huffman, age 71, of Bluffton, SC, passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2025.

She was born in Louisville, KY on December 29, 1954 and raised in Lexington, KY, a place that always remained home in her heart. After a dedicated career at Robins Air Force Base (RAFB) in Warner Robins, GA, where she scheduled maintenance for the F-15 program, Fran retired and returned to Lexington to care for her elderly parents. She lovingly served as their caretaker until their passing; a role she took on with the same strength, loyalty and devotion that defined her life.

Throughout her years, she was known for her deep love of animals, plants, and bird watching. She was stubborn in the best way, genuinely funny, and always ready with a quick comeback. Easy to pick on – and just as quick to pick right back – she brought joy and laughter wherever she went.

She was a devoted mother to Abbi and Susan, who were not only her children but her very best friends. Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her adored granddaughters, Emily (13), Bell (12), and Edda (8), whom she loved deeply and unconditionally. Time spent with her girls was her most cherished.

Those who knew her will remember her wit, her warmth, her resilience and the way she showed love through both humor and unwavering care. Though her passing was completely unexpected, the impact she made and the love she gave will endure.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter H. Huffman, Jr. and John Eva Huffman (Fletcher) as well as her aunts and uncles, Margaret (Larry) Wright, Evelyn (Willis) Webb, Paul (Mattie) Huffman and J. Douglas Huffman.

She is survived by her brother, Dr. Eric F. Huffman and his wife Glynis, her daughters Abbi (Aaron) Keen, Susan (Gary Hermsmeier) Proffitt, and her granddaughters Emily Gray Keen, Edelyn Elaine Keen, and Elizabella Kay Proffitt.

Fran will be incredibly missed and forever loved. She will be remembered by her family privately; no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Fran’s memory may consider contributing to her granddaughters’ education funds.
