Franklin Tobias Julian

November 12, 1934 — July 31, 2021

Franklin Tobias Julian, 86, died July 31, 2021 at Coastal Carolina Hospital following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

“Toby” was born in Reading, PA on November 12, 1934 the son of Alvin “Doggie” Julian and Lena Tobias Julian.

Toby went to Dartmouth where he played basketball for his coach/father and co-captained the Ivy League Championship Teams.  After Dartmouth, Toby joined the Marines.

After the Marines, Toby started a 30 plus year career in the telecommunication field, first working for Bell Tell and later AT&T and other international telecommunications companies.

He married Nancy Wedgewood Bowen in Hanover, NH while at Dartmouth and they had seven children.

Toby loved sports, starting with basketball, horse racing and golf.  He particularly enjoyed playing golf with his son, Jeffrey, and following this golf successes including those on the PGA Tour.  He also enjoyed American History and wrote a number of books about historical topics.  Toby also loved animals.

Toby leaves behind his sister, Chris Sheffield and her spouse Don, his five daughters and several grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his first wife Nancy, daughter Leslie, and son Jeffrey.

Celebration of Toby’s life will be private at his direction.  Additionally, a small gathering of neighbors and friends will be held in Sun City at a later date.
