Frederick Harry Bartlett

April 7, 1942 — April 10, 2022

Frederick Harry Bartlett passed away on 04/10/2022, three days after his 80th birthday. Fred grew up on the east side of Cleveland. He was a talented athlete, commuting to the west side, Lakewood High School, in order to participate on a swim team.  He won many awards and broke/made various records throughout his swimming career.  He was also a skilled football player, receiving a scholarship to play for the Ohio State University.  His first love was swimming, and he finished his college career swimming for Eastern Kentucky University, while earning his Bachelor of Science and marrying his late wife, Arretta.  Having his eye on the target and his ear in the clouds, he was an avid trapshooter and enjoyed traveling to state shoots in his R.V. with his trusted Labrador Retrievers.  “Mr. B” was a well-known teacher in Chardon, Ohio, teaching math and becoming the first computer teacher while developing his own curriculum for the green screen Apple IIe.  Many of his students will remember the elusive “red apple.”  After retiring from teaching (and the snow belt), he relocated to the Hilton Head/Bluffton area of South Carolina.  While enjoying paradise, he would refer to snow as “that funny white stuff.”  He was preceded in death by his parents Charles & Phyllis Bartlett of Newbury, OH; his late wife Arretta Boone Bartlett of Chardon, OH; his brother Tom Bartlett of Newbury, OH; and his long-time partner, Lynn Dimaio of Bluffton, SC. Surviving are his children: Kimberly Bartlett of Bluffton, SC; Cynthia (Bruce) Sauber of Archbold, OH; Charles (Bonnie) Bartlett of Sylvania, OH and Susan Bartlett of Chicago, IL.  Fred also leaves behind four grandsons: Jacob and Maxwell Sauber of Archbold, OH; Andrew and Matthew Bartlett of Sylvania OH; his only great-grand daughter, Lillian Sauber of Archbold, OH and his yellow lab, Rachel.  Upon his request, cremation will be conducted with no services.  A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Labrador Retriever rescue or dog shelter.
