Fredna (Tena) Nix McCormack, age 93, widow of George McCormack, passed away on December 31, 2020 at the home of her son in Walterboro, SC. Tena was born in Garnett, SC on May 22, 1927 to the late Victor Hugo Nix and Rose McKenzie Nix.

She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Brandon McCormack, Garrett McCormack, Daniel Crosby, Andrea Gardner, Freddie Brannen, Stephanie Forbes, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild of which she loved and touched deeply.

Tena was predeceased by five sisters, Naomi Garbade, Rose Martin, Martha Lee Dale, Marion Vickery, JoAnne Drew, a brother, Victor (Sonny) Nix and a granddaughter, Angela Brannen Matzen.

Tena attended grade school at Garnett, SC and graduated from Estill High School.  She was a high academic achiever and had a love for school.

After marrying the love of her life, George McCormack, and starting a family, Tena studied nursing and worked as an LPN at the Ridgeland General Hospital until her retirement.

Tena was a member of the Ridgeland Advent Christian Church. As a faithful servant to the Lord, she was a teacher in Sunday School, Bible School, and worked at Church Camps. She was a strong advocate for the WHFMS, and dutifully supported and prayed for our missionaries. Tena was also known to many as a floral artist and would harvest flowers from her yard every Saturday evening to create beautiful arrangements that would grace the altar table for Sunday services, even well into her nineties. She also worked diligently to preserve the church’s history, gathering historical documents and photographs to establish a library for generations to enjoy. She was a prayer warrior.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ridgeland Advent Christian Church for the Foreign Missions Po Box 369 Ridgeland, SC 29936.
