French Collins Malphrus, 79, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 at his home in Ridgeland following a brief illness.He was born in Ridgeland, SC on April 20, 1933, son of the late French R. Malphrus and Nona P. Malphrus.Mr. Malphrus attended Family Harvest Ministries in Ridgeland, SC; attended Ridgeland schools; served in the SC National Guard and was a successful Ridgeland businessman for many years. He was best known since childhood as a singer and songwriter.He is survived by his wife of five years, Evelyn Bazemore Malphrus of Ridgeland, SC; one son, Rev. C. Perry Malphrus of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; daughters, Darlene M. Fleming of Hilton Head, SC; Heidi M. Bailey of Okatie, SC; Sherry Olafson of Salt Lake City, Utah; Patricia DeLong of Bluffton, SC and Wendy DuBose of Ridgeland, SC; sisters, Ellen M. Langford; Bertie M. Woods and Margaret M. Davis; brother, Gen Malphrus; sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Getsinger Malphrus who passed away in February of 2001 and a sister, Louise M. Baker.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 27, 2013 in the Ridgeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the Ridgeland Baptist Church Social Hall until 5:00 pm.
