Gary Lee Brooks

Gary Lee Brooks, age 76, passed away at his home in Bluffton, South Carolina on January 22, 2022.

A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held February 11, 2022 at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, South Carolina.

Gary was born on April 2, 1945 to the late Lester Brooks and the late Margaret (Baker) Brooks of Nevada, Iowa.  Gary graduated from Nevada High School, earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and a MBA from The University of Iowa.  His marriage to Janet Fields took place in 1969 in Oberursel, Germany while serving in the U.S. Army.  Gary enjoyed a long career in product development and applications in the specialty films industry.  He and Jan raised their family in Charlotte, North Carolina before moving to Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina.  Gary was very proud of his heritage and often referred to himself as an “Iowa Farm Boy.”

Preceded in death by his parents Margaret and Lester Brooks, his niece Julie Douglass, his brother-in-law Gene Douglass and mother-in-law Marg Fields.  He is survived by his wife Jan Brooks; son Ryan Brooks and partner Rachel Durben, of Truckee, California; son Chad Brooks and wife Deborah, of Memphis, Tennessee; granddaughters Faith Lynn Brooks and Emily Anne Brooks; sister-in-law Linda Douglass; niece Jill MacPherson and many dear cousins.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Gary Lee Brooks to Bluffton Self Help.
