Gary Pitts Hohman

July 1, 1951 — June 3, 2025

Bluffton

Gary Pitts Hohman, 73, lover of all things that are loud and run on gas, rode out of this life and on to the next on June 3rd, 2025, at Savannah Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. Born on July 1st, 1951, in Tucson, AZ, Gary was the son of the late John and Bertha Hohman, to whom he probably apologized profusely upon arriving at the pearly gates for all the grief he and his brother Lee gave them as children.

Gary loved fast, loud machines, but he also loved his family, his wife, and his dogs. He is survived by his wife, Denise, with whom he spent nearly twenty-seven great years and who never minded the noise, his four daughters, Jennifer, Melanie, Stacey, and Amanda, his eight grandchildren, and his siblings, Lee and Bette Ann. When he pulls up to the next life, Gary will no doubt have treats ready for his and Denise’s three Lhasa Apsos who will be there to greet him.

Gary spent most of his life in Stafford, VA, where he dedicated his time to a long and productive career with Sheehy Auto Store, mowing his lawn, and indulging his love for NASCAR and his boat, It Ain't Easy.

It wasn't always easy, but Gary always made it fun, and his interests moved onto dry land with the purchase of his first Harley Davidson, ushering in a lifelong love of motorcycles. He enjoyed seeing the midwest and southwest from the seat of his bike, of course, on trips to South Dakota and Arizona.

After retiring in 2018, Gary moved to Bluffton, SC, where he continued making lots of noise with the Roadrunners Motorcycle Club and through his volunteer work with the Patriot Guard Riders, providing security and respect at the memorial services of first responders and veterans.

Gary lived his life loudly, and we can honor him by doing the same.

A memorial service will be held on what would be Gary's 74th birthday: July 1st, 2025, from 11-1, at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Patriot Guard Riders at PatriotGuard.org, and have a beer for Gary.
