Gary Phillips

March 31, 1945 — March 8, 2022

Gary Phillips, beloved husband and father, grandfather and great-grandfather was called to his heavenly home on March 8, 2022 after a courageous battle with prostate cancer and pulmonary fibrosis.  He was born on March 31, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio to Rupert E. Phillips and Vivian Kline.

Gary is survived by his wife Pat and they were married just short of 40 wonderful years.

He was the loving father to Jason A. Phillips, Gary Phillips, Jr, Candyce Wood, Sandra Cox, and Kimberly (Ken) Roth.  Proud grandfather to Tre King, Alora (Ollie) Tawoosi, DJ Anderson, Tristian Carlson, Jovi Phillips, and Emmie Rose Phillips

Proud Great Grandfather (PAPA) to Ariyah and Avah King and their mother, Tierra Gray.

He will always have a very special place in the hearts of all his family!

After a year at Ohio State University, he enlisted in the US Navy and served as an electronic technician with patrol squadron VP-19 at Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA and later in Dograun, MD with the patrol squadron VP-30. He was honorably discharged in 1971 after 8 years of military service and a very proud Veteran.

In the private sector, he worked for SAIC as a civilian contractor on the military warfare programs and submarine anti-warfare systems from the David Taylor Research Lab in Landover, Maryland.  He was able to combine his love of travel with his professional assignments as he serviced the naval facilities in Australia, Japan, Hawaii, and Iceland as well as many in the continental USA.

In 2010, Gary retired and moved to Sun City, Bluffton, South Carolina to enjoy the warmer climate and the opportunity to play golf as much as possible. He shared his love of wine and friendship with his wonderful neighbors. He and Pat acquired Absentee House Watch, LLC and serviced over 125 snowbird clients as they went north for the summer or enjoyed times of travel and vacation.

Family Military graveside services and interment will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery in mid-April.
