Gary Owen Sauls peacefully passed away on January 2nd at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, GA after a brief stay where he was surrounded by family.

Born on February 9th 1953, Gary and his siblings moved often as their dad worked for the Mill. They settled back in Bluffton near family and Bluffton is where he was raised. He moved from Bluffton, SC to Furman, SC when he bought “Knotty Pines Plantation” in 2000. In 2024 he and Molly sold their farm and moved to Midway, GA to spend their days overlooking the water.

Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. You either knew him as “Mr. Gary” or his favorite title “BigPop”. He married the love of his life, Molly in 1972. Their children were Amy Sauls Boni who married Alfred Boni and his son Gary Owen Sauls Jr.

He had four grandchildren. Halle Boni Keiffer (Nick), Alfred “Tank” Boni Jr., Grace Sauls Staple (Keith), and Gary Owen Sauls III also known as “GZ”. He had 5 great grandchildren who were the light of his life, Axel Hardee, Mack Ellree, Colt Austin, Lainey Joseph, and Khloe Olivia, and his beloved nephews Richard Peavey (Wendy) and Shane Farmer (Andrea). He is survived by his brother Jay Sauls (Lorraine), his sister Linda Farmer. He is predeceased by his parents Jeff and Marie Sauls, sister Fran Daley (Wayne), brother James Sauls, and many life long friends who he considered his family.

Gary was an avid outdoorsman and Hot Rod expert. He was the owner of Hilton Head Island Heating & Air, Inc. that he started in 1984. He was a graduate of Bluffton High School class of 1971. He was one of the original founders of the Carolina Dreamers Car Club. A member of the Hardeeville Jaycee’s. He was a former drag racer and member of the NHRA. And most importantly he was a member at Midway Methodist Church where he and Molly joined to continue to learn and grow in their relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton on January 8th, 2026 from 5pm-7pm.

Funeral Services on January 12th, 2026 at Midway Methodist Church from 5pm-7pm, located at 215 Martin Road Midway, GA 31320.

In lieu of flowers the family would like all donations made to Midway Methodist Church.
