Gene Daniel (Papa Gene) Bryan Sr. moved on to Heaven on Monday January 25, 2016. He passed quietly surrounded by his wife and children at his home in Levy, South Carolina. He was born on December 2, 1937 in Savannah, Georgia, the son of the late George and Odell Bryan. He retired from the Savannah Sugar Refinery after 40 years of service, and was a proud member of “The Over the Sugar Hill Gang”. He served in the South Carolina National Guard (Ridgeland) for 12 years. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Hardeeville. He was an avid hunter and gardener, but most importantly, he loved his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard L. Bryan. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anna Lucille Bryan; children, Gene Jr. (Irene) and Penny (Scooter) Daley; sisters, Mary (Carl) Rogers and Dell Bryan (J.W.) Harper; four grandchildren, Crystal (Gary) Vinson, Gene III (Caitlin), Ashton Daley, and Ainsley Daley; and three great-grandchildren, Tommy Vinson, Bryan Vinson, and Baylor Bryan, and many nieces and nephews. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 West Adams Street, Ridgeland, SC. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 29, 2016 at St. Luke’s Memorial Gardens, 3080 Okatie Highway, Okatie, SC. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hardeeville, P.O. Box 522, Hardeeville, SC 29927 or Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, P.O. Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910.
