Gene Taggart, 82 of Bluffton, SC passes away on Friday, January 4, 2013 in Baton Rouge, LA.He was born in Savannah, GA on November 13, 1930 to the late Eugene S. Taggart Sr. and Katie Wilson Taggart.He was a former photographer for the Savannah News & Press. He was a well known musician and bandleader for many years in Savannah who entertained hundreds of people at Johnny Harris Restaurant and supper club for 29 years. He was the leader of the Gene Taggart Band and played the piano and keyboard. He was a US Air Force veteran. He was a past commodore for the South Carolina Yacht Club; past president of the Wild Bunch Motor Coach Club; co-founder and past president Hilton Head Oyster and Motor car driving society; volunteer with the first Hilton Head Concours deElegance and was associated with several other car clubs.He is survived by his wife, Gloria Harvey Shepard Taggart of Bluffton, SC; three sons, Terry Taggart (Karen) of Bloomingdale, GA, Teddy Taggart (Cristi) of Richmond Hill, GA and Tommy Taggart of Savannah, GA; two step sons, Michael Shepard (B.J.) of Charleston, SC, and Rickey Shepard (Amy) of Bluffton, SC; one daughter, Tammy Purvis (Lamar) of Brunswick, GA; one brother, Dan Taggart of Savannah, GA; one sister, Susan Cartmill (Jerry) of Beaufort, SC; grandchildren, Christopher George, Neal George, Alex George, Matthew Taggart, Gena Taggart, Scotty Taggart, Tory Taggart and Katy Travi and step grandchildren, J. R. Shepard (Elizabeth), Christopher Shepard (Joanne) and one great grandchild, Jake Shepard.The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 3:00 til 6:00 pm at the Taggart residence.The family requests memorial gifts be made in memory of Gene Taggart to the University of South Carolina, 1 University Blvd., Bluffton, SC 29910 or the American Heart Association, P.O.
