George F. Capuzello

George Frank Capuzello, 82, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on July 6th, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio on June 20th, 1943, George was the son of Frank and Celia (Gemma) Capuzello. He graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1961 and went on to serve in the Army in Metz, France from 1961-1964. After the Army, he attended Youngstown State University where he earned his degree in 1968.

George dedicated his career to teaching special education. He spent his free time coaching the football team. He later founded Capuzello Realty and spent many years as a realtor and broker.

As a devoted member of the community, George served on the board of Heroes on Horseback and was a member of the Romeos at the Four Seasons. He enjoyed organizing stretch classes, cornhole, happy hours, and many other activities. George was known as the “Sausage King” amongst his friends and family and enjoyed teaching and passing on the sausage making tradition.

George met Ann Burkhouse in 1975 while they both were teaching at Hubbard High School in Ohio and on August 21st, 1976, they were married. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter and adventure. In 1982, they relocated to Hilton Head, South Carolina where they made their home.

George was a proud father to five children. With his former spouse, Thelma Patellis Capuzello, he had Cilvia “Touly” Xenikis, and Nick (Cali) Capuzello, both of Youngstown, Ohio. With his wife Ann, he shared 3 children. Kelly (Luke) McCoy of Virginia, Frank (Miranda) Capuzello of Hilton Head, SC, and Bobbi (Jeff) Witherly of Charleston, SC. He was a cherished grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Themelina, Kalotina, and Marina Xenikis, Nicholas and Caroline Capuzello, Morgan, Joey and Gemma McCoy, Cora and Corben Capuzello and Taylor Witherly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Celia Capuzello; his sister, Terri Rini Kopp; brother-in-law, Tom Madeline, and his in-laws, Adeline and Bob Burkhouse.

He is survived by his sisters Mary Jane Madeline, Fran (Joe) Russ, and Linda (Mike) O’Brien with his many nieces and nephews.

George will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to others, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family and community. His legacy lives on in all those whose lives he touched. He was a cherished member of the Four Seasons community. In his honor, the community created a George Capuzello Backpack 4 Kids Drive. The family requests that donations are made to this drive to support children in need, or donations to Heroes on Horseback.
