George S. Jones Sr.

George Sidney Jones Sr., 79, of Ridgeland, SC and husband of Barbara Jean Horton Jones, passed away on October 31, 2016 at Coastal Carolina Hospital, Hardeeville, SC. George was born in Louisville, Mississippi on October 27, 1937 to the late Sidney Jones and Mary Jane Lee Jones. George was a graduate of Ridgeland High School where he was an outstanding running back on the football team; graduate of Wingate College where he played collegiate football and a member of the SC Shrine Bowl team. He was a US Army veteran and formerly employed at Ridgeland Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He later worked for Smith Ford, Fickling Ford, Jasper Motors, Ragsdale Toyota and Heritage Motors. George owned and operated G.J.’s Cars and Homes of Ridgeland before retiring. He was a member of the Ridgeland Baptist Church and a developer for Exit 21 interchange on I95 in Ridgeland. George enjoyed fishing, boating, his motorcycle and was a USC Gamecock fan. He loved to talk on his cellphone and have a good cigar. In addition to his wife, George is survived by his son, George S. Jones Jr. (Jacquelyn) of Ridgeland; his daughters, Dedra White and Gina Leigh Jones both of Bluffton; one sister, Carrie Jones Bates of Texas; and grandchildren, Travis White, Casey Stotts (Cody), Addie Grace Davids and Savanna Lee Jones. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Ridgeland Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 pm on Thursday at the church with burial to follow in Ridgeland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send memorial donations in memory of George S.
