George Rumpp, age 76 years old, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 peacefully at Caroline’s Cottage, surrounded by his wife, Phyllis Rumpp, and daughters, Nicole Speelman and Kira Marks.

George was born on October 23, 1946 to the late Herbert and Ruth Rumpp. George graduated from Cheltenham High School and Temple University.  He attained his undergraduate and Master’s degree in Science Education.  George earned varsity honors on the Rifle team for Temple.

George taught middle school students ninth grade students and university students and teachers. He taught physical, space and earth science for the Colonial School District for over 30 years and then became an administrator. He was honored to be a member of American Meteorology Society where he and his wife, Phyllis, taught teachers in Australia, Edinburgh University and teachers attending numerous National Science Teachers Association facts on meteorology and the physics of the ocean.

Summers found George running the press room for Pocono Raceway for over 20 years. He was eager to share his meteorology happenings with several developments where he and his wife lived.  Sailing took on a whole new meaning for the two while traveling with others in their marina community.

His expertise in both meteorology and physics of the ocean became an important part of his life as he put out hurricane happenings for over 200 people on his list every night during hurricane season.  Even during the end of his illness, he still used his walker to make it to his computer and put out the latest happenings in the Atlantic Ocean so neighbors, friends, and family would be safe.  He died on November 30, the last day of hurricane season.

He had a passion for model trains his whole life.  He was part of the Model Railroad Club in Sun City where he helped in designing an outdoor railroad using G-gauge trains. He was a longtime member of the National Model Railroad Assoc.

George loved animals, especially greyhounds. Greta, our greyhound, was part of the family.  He also enjoyed being part of the Delaware Valley Astronomers.

George was a member of the Episcopal Church and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation here in South Carolina where he served on the Board.

In addition to his wife, George is survived by his children, Nicole Speelman (Douglas), Kira Marks (Christopher), Zach Duke (Melody), Schon Duke (Cynthia); Grandchildren, Montana Speelman, Dru  Speelman, Rick Duke, Grace Duke, Lola Duke, Barrett Duke, Cameron Duke, Tally Duke.
