November 26, 1953 — April 10, 2021

George Marshall Scott, Jr., 67, passed away unexpectedly in Hilton Head, SC on Saturday, April 10, 2021.  Marshall was born in 1953 in Roswell, NM to parents George M. Scott and Jane (Floyd) Scott. His childhood involved moves to Georgia, New Hampshire, and Alabama where he graduated from the Donoho School (Anniston Academy) in 1972. Marshall attended Emory University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. With a degree in finance, he embarked on a career in banking and business management. Most recently, he and his wife, Barbara Sanders Scott, owned and operated a digital marketing and web design firm. Marshall’s career took him to many locations throughout the South, but he considered Athens, GA his hometown and maintained his membership with the First Presbyterian Church of Athens.

He was an enthusiastic adventurer and enjoyed sailing, hiking, cycling, and was an avid reader. His friends and family enjoyed his entertaining charisma and wit when in his company. Forever the southern gentleman, Marshall took time to enjoy conversations with friends and neighbors, and with his amicable smile he easily engaged others with his down-to-earth style.

Marshall was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister, Jane Ellen Long. He is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife Barbara Sanders Scott, his daughter Tanner Scott, Stockholm, Sweden, and his sister Jennifer Clay (Paul) Knoxville, TN. He also leaves behind uncle and aunt, Richard and Joyce Floyd, nieces Madeline Long, Meredith Clay, and Allison Clay, nephew David Clay, as well as many cousins.

A private graveside service will be held at Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens, GA at 1:00 pm on May 22, 2021, with Dr. Carol Strickland officiating.  Family and friends are invited to greet the family after the memorial service at the Sexton’s House at Oconee Hill Cemetery.
