George Herman Weyhrich entered the kingdom of God on Saturday, March 1. He was born March 13, 1935 in Pekin, IL to Henry and Lucille Weyhrich. George met his wife, Ilona (Lee) Myslinski Weyhrich at Bradley University. George and Lee raised their three children in Illinois before retiring to Sun City in 1997. George worked for Hyster for 35 years, where he made many lifelong friends.
Throughout their 52 year marriage, they traveled extensively, including camping trips out West, international travel, and visits to family and friends across the country. George's favorite place to visit was wherever he was at the moment.
George served in the Army for four years, and continued displaying his love of country through involvement in the USO and the Sun City Veterans Assn. He proudly served as Commander in 2002 and received the Veteran of the Year award in 2009.
Upon retirement, George was very active in Sun City and Lord of Life Lutheran Church. He held leadership roles in Money Talks, the Computer Club, the Travel Club, and the Neighborhood Council. He was also involved in Okatie Farmers and the Woodworkers. George particularly enjoyed OLLI classes and attending Upbeats. His contributions were recognized when he was selected for a Sun City Board of Directors award in 2007.
George's list of activities and accomplishments is long, and he will certainly be remembered in that way. However, for those that knew him best, the thing that sticks out most was his genuine desire to help others and his unlimited supply of cheerfulness.
George is survived by his wife, Lee, his three children - Kim Gibson (Craig) of Jacksonville FL, Pam Bell (Tim) of Jacksonville FL , and David Weyhrich (Sara) of St Louis MO, his six grandchildren - Alex, Colin, Tyler, Drew, Allison, and Samantha, and his sister, Harriet Graf. A memorial service will be held at Lord of Life Lutheran church on Wednesday, March 5 at 11:00. Donations are being accepted in lieu of flowers to Lord of Life Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS.org).
