Gerald Lynes

Gerald W. Lynes, 91, of Rock Hill, SC passed away on December 24, 2016.He was the only child of the late Oscar Adolph and Corine Bryan Lynes. He was born in Savannah, Ga., and grew up Ridgeland, SC. After graduating from high school, he entered the U. S. Navy and was appointed Lieutenant in 1951. While in the Navy, he attended Newberry College and Duke. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Westvaco, Charleston, SC after 28 years and from Georgia Kraft, Rome, Ga., and continued to work with Consulting Engineering firms after moving to Rock Hill in 1990. Mr. Lynes was raised Baptist. He is a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Rock Hill.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Beam Lynes, his children, Christopher W. Lynes of Glendale, AZ, Matthew Michael Lynes (Angela) of Charleston, SC, Rosemarie L. Matthews (Joel) of Charlotte, NC, and Amy L. Lynes, of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Annagail Lynes, Rachael McCann Zealy (Brandon), Jessica M. Lynes, Brian W. McCann, and Richard Kyle Lynes (Ally), his great granddaughter, Amanda Lynes. He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Ruth Boer Lynes, the mother of his children, and daughter-in-law, Andrea Lynes.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Harborchase Memory Care with Providence Hospice and Westminster Heath Care with Hospice Care of South Carolina. Their devotion to Gerald’s comfort and support of his family members will not be forgotten. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in Grahamville Cemetery, Ridgeland, SC.
