Geraldine Maria Pierro

Geraldine Maria Pierro (née Salamon) died quietly in her sleep on Wednesday, October 1, after a brief but painless occurrence of extremely aggressive lymphoma.

Gerry was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, NJ, on October 31, 1944. The youngest of four children of Joseph and Anna Salamon (née Kravontka), she grew up in East Rutherford and graduated from East Rutherford High School in the Class of 1962. She earned a degree in education from Patterson State College in 1966 and proceeded to teach at Lindbergh School in Carlstadt until 1971. She returned to the classroom a decade later on the staff of Our Lady of the Lake School in Verona. In 1987 she transferred to Midland School in Rochelle Park, and she taught there for the next 21 years.

Gerry retired in 2008 and moved to Bluffton, SC, where she remained for the rest of her life. A lifelong learner, avid traveler, and voracious reader, she was active in numerous organizations connected with the Sun City community.

She is survived by everything that she touched—foremost being the lives of over 4,855 students.
