Gerard William Kassebaum

Gerard William Kassebaum, of Bluffton, SC, and formerly of Dix Hills, NY and Savannah GA, died Friday, August 24, 2018 surrounded by his family.

Jerry, also known as “Jerry the K” and “The Big G” was born in 1934 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth Kassebaum. He was a graduate of Bishop Loughlin Memorial HS, enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War and after his honorable discharge began to work for New York Telephone and attended and completed his college degree at night at Pace University in NY.  Jerry retired from Nynex in 1994 after a 40+year career in the telecommunications industry.

For the last 13 years Jerry and Joan lived in Sun City where Jerry played softball until he was 82 years old enjoyed playing dominoes with the guys and gathering and laughing with his close friends from years past that all lived in the community.

Jerry is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 63 years Joan Kassebaum, daughters Joan Marie and Denise and her husband Ira, son Stephen and wife Chrissy, grandchildren James and wife Heather, Jennafer  and husband Martin, Kyle, Mackenzie, Matthew and Lexie and great-grandchildren Julia, James Gerard and Addyson.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 31st at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church (31 Saint Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC) at 10:30am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jerry’s name to Hospice Care of the Low Country or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
