Gertrude Mullenmeister known as Trude passed away on October 30 at the age of 98. She was predeceased by her husband. She leaves behind her loving family of three children: Craig, Karen, Jon and her son-in law Bob. She was a loving, and devoted wife. Both Trude and Bill shared 68 years of marriage. They were an ideal team bonded by love of God, family and country. They supported each other in all things especially as they faced the challenges of aging.
As a war bride she was resilient and independent. She always owned her own car in an age when many of her female peers did not have access to a car. She delighted in touring different areas, always on the lookout for new finds, places and experiences. Trude drove a car until she was 92 and then she decided it was time to retire her keys. Dad would call her his butterfly.
Mrs. Mullenmeister was a high school educator at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School for many years and enjoyed working with her students. It was here that she developed some long lasting friendships with her fellow teachers.
Trude was a passionate patron of the arts and she and her friends never missed an opportunity to view the latest exhibit at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts or to take in concerts at the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She had a deep appreciation for opera. Her home was always filled with classical music.
Trude loved to laugh and had a wonderful Irish sense of humor. She traveled with her circle of friends exploring the globe together and much to her delight she even marched in the Dublin parade in Ireland!
Trude was a gentle loving soul. She was always patient and kind. She was a great listener and consoler. She possessed a deep capacity for forgiveness.
As a mother Trude was always wise, benign, supportive and fun loving and even playful. She embodied the very parental traits that every child needs from a mother. We shall dearly miss our Mom but we are strong in the knowledge that she gifted us with everything we need to continue forward even without her. If we can only emulate her kindness, compassion, resilience, and sense of humor the world would be a better place. She was a lovely soul who now walks in eternal beauty.
