Gilbert Lee, Sr.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Gilbert Lee, Sr. was born in Ridgeland, SC on September 29, 1939. He was the son of the late Mary Anderson Lee and Roosevelt Lee, Sr. Gilbert Lee, Sr. received his early education in Ridgeland, SC. As a youth, at the age of 16; Gilbert began working on Chelsea Plantation as an Agriculture Specialist and huntsman working under Mr. Marshall Fields. After dedicating 60 years of hard work, he retired. Gilbert had an undying love for hunting and baseball. In the early 80’s, he served as a head coach for the Low Bottom Pirates baseball team. He also enjoyed fishing and shrimping; he had a charm like no other for the women. Gilbert Lee, Sr. gave his life to Christ later on in life, he became a member of the St. Luke Baptist Church and was Baptist where he served on the Usher Board until his health failed. Gilbert Lee, Sr. departed this life on Friday, December 4, 2020 in Beaufort Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mrs. Nell Williams Lee, his parents Mary Anderson Lee and Roosevelt Lee, Sr. and his brothers, Johnathan Lee, Richard Lee, Roosevelt Lee, Jr. Abraham Anderson, and Perry Lee, Sr. The memories he left will be forever cherished by his loving daughters; Ms. Jannell Lee of Beaufort, SC, Ms. Latoya Heyward of Ridgeland, SC, a son Gilbert Lee, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, one sister Ms. Jennie Lee of Ridgeland, SC, a brother Mr. Samuel (Sarah) Lee of Pineland, SC, two sisters-in-law Marie Lee of Ridgeland, SC, and Betty Williams of Philadelphia, PA, nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his church family.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Low Bottom Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, December 11, 2020 from 7:00 pm--8:00 pm at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland.
