Gladys Elsie Cooler Simmons

Gladys Elsie Cooler Simmons, 97 of Bluffton, SC and widow of Jesse R. Simmons passed away on March 23, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Simmons was born in Okatie, SC on July 9, 1919 to the late Dan C. Cooler and Annie Ethel Holiday Cooler. Mrs. Simmons was a Registered Nurse at the Ridgeland Hospital; Oglethorpe Sanatorium in Savannah; Dr. T.B. Carroll in Hardeeville and retired when working for Dr. Fred Kessler. She was a member of the Maye River Baptist Church; former Sunday School Superintendent and after retirement a Home Care Nurse for several of her family members. She is survived by her daughters, Jessie Carolyn Hudson (Alfred H. Sr.) of Jacksonville, FL and Jean S. Tanner (Harry Sr.) of Bluffton, SC; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 21 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sons, E. Phillip Simmons Sr. and Thomas Martin Simmons Sr.; her brothers, Hinton, Daniel and Randolph Cooler; and her sisters, Marie Cooler Bryan, Emaline C. Miller and Claudia Wilcox. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Maye River Baptist Church, Bluffton with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am until the hour of the service at the church.
