Glenda Helen Hartley 71, of Ridgeland, SC passed away July 28, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer with loved ones by her side. Glenda was born March 18, 1943 in Alamo, GA, the youngest daughter of Helen and Alvin Hartley, who predeceded her in death. She was a graduate of Wheeler County High School, Alamo, GA and received her Bachelors degree from Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, GA.
Glenda is survived by her sisters Jo Ann Hall and husband Les Hall; Lane Woodring and husband Willard (Chip) Woodring; her niece Jennifer Hall; nephew Jesse Woodring and wife Danielle; her aunt Mildred Ryals and family; Thelma Evans and family as well as many loving cousins. Glenda was preceded in death by her dear friend Martha Doolittle. Glenda was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt and friend and will be deeply missed.
Glenda was a teacher beloved by many students and enjoyed going above and beyond for them by doing special activities that taught them many life lessons. Her Project Adventure and Outdoor Education classes (including Hunter Safety) were especially popular at Groves High School in Savannah, GA where she taught for many years. Glenda also enjoyed working in her yard growing beautiful flowers, vegetables and fruits which she shared with family, friends and neighbors.
Glenda was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves baseball team and the Georgia Bulldogs football team. During her last weeks she was still trying to tell the manager how to coach the Braves. Her last days and hours were spent in the tender loving care of Cindy and Randy Swailes her family and friends.
