Gloria Peralta, died on October 15, 2022 surrounded by her immediate family. She was born in New York NY on September 7, 1935. Her Husband Manuel (Manny) Peralta predeceased her. They were High School sweethearts, and were married in New York, NY in 1956. They had three children - Gregory, Suzanne, and Stephan. Gregory ‘ s wife is Terry (Graf). Suzanne married Sean Chance, and subsequently preceded her mother in death. Stephan ’ s wife is Marie (Maciejewski). The Grandchildren are: Jasmine, Logan (wife Alexis), Hunter (wife Joanna), Maria, Grace, Eden, and Evan.
While attending Newtown High School, Gloria was active in the school’s governance including being elected Vice President and Capitan of the Cheerleaders. Upon graduation in 1953, she attended Katherine Gibbs Business School and worked at R. T. Vanderbilt Chemical Company. In 1957, she left the business world to raise a family. In 1963, she returned to the business world to become Co-owner of Court Yard Antiques.
In 1989, Manny was selected by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), to be it ’ s President and Chief Executive Officer. During his tenure at ANSI, Gloria was designated as “ANSI’s First Lady” and accompanied Manny in his travels representing the United States in the world-wide standards community. Their travels included: England, Western Europe, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Hungary, Russia, China, Austria, East Germany, Chile, Israel, Singapore, Turkey, and Cuba. Gloria lived in Madison, NJ for over 30 years prior to her husband retiring. They moved permanently to Hilton Head Island, SC in January, 1994. During her marriage, she lived in Holland, Spain, and England. Prior to retiring to Hilton Head Island, she sold her interest in Court Yard Antiques to her partner.
In retirement, she remained active and served in the leadership of the “Happy Cookers of Hilton Head” as well as, participating in various. Community volunteer actives. She also enjoyed playing her piano and accordion. Visitation and Memorial Service will be held at Sauls Funeral Home on January 15, 2023. Visitation will begin at 2:30 followed by the memorial beginning at 3:00.
In lieu of flowers, make contributions to eradicating breast cancer or to the Hilton Head Humane Society.
