Gordon Barry Lamb, a man of unwavering spirit and a true passion for life, peacefully passed away of natural causes at the age of 90 in his cherished home in Bluffton, SC on June 15, 2023.
Gordon was born in San Diego, CA on December 19, 1932, the eldest son of Eva Joan Alcazar Lamb and Raymond Starr Lamb, and brother to Janice, Joan, Carol Ann and Raymond.
The son of a Naval Officer, Gordon spent much of his early years living on bases across the Pacific. One core memory that Gordon frequently recounted was his eyewitness account of the fateful Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Gordon's experience of that historic moment profoundly impacted him, shaping his perspective on life and instilling in him a deep appreciation for the fragility of peace and the resilience of the human spirit. After being evacuated from Hawaii with his mother and siblings, Gordon spent the rest of his formative years in Coronado, CA where even until his passing, he considered his true home.
After graduating from Coronado High in 1951, Gordon followed the family tradition and enlisted in the Navy where he served onboard the Battleship USS Iowa during the Korean War. Following his return from Korea, he pursued higher education at the University of Maryland and met his first wife, Thérèse (Terry) Fuller. Both Gordon and Terry joined the CIA and to this day the true nature of their work remains a mystery to us all. He then transitioned to the world of finance and investments starting as a stockbroker and eventually establishing his own successful investment advisory firm, which would later evolve into the American Asset Management Group.
In 1979, Gordon found love once again as he married his beloved second wife, Sandra "Sandy" Lovre Lamb. Together, Gordon and Sandy created a life brimming with joy and warmth, delighting in the company of cherished family and friends at their homes in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Throughout his adult life, Gordon actively participated in local politics. He served as a commissioner on the Montgomery County, MD Parks & Planning Commission and played an instrumental role in the formation of the region’s recreational park system and the development of the master plan for the development of Bethesda, MD. He also held numerous appointed and elected positions while living in Pennsylvania and South Carolina.
An avid socializer, he reveled in the company of friends, relishing fine wine. Gordon had a passion for flying and unyielding support for his beloved Washington football team (although he could never bring himself to refer to them as anything but the “Redskins”). He gave generously to his church and continued to support the youth leadership training program he and Sandy established with the Lower Susquehanna Synod that has inspired hundreds of Lutheran youth to become leaders in their church.
Gordon’s captivating storytelling, warm laughter, and genuine kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Gordon is survived by his son Greg (Kristen) Lamb, daughter Jennifer Boudrye, step-son Dave (Jenny) Flood; grandchildren Melissa Boudrye, Trevor (Katelyn) Lamb, Julia (Adam) Ogg, Ethan Lamb, Mason Boudrye, and Zoe Flood; and sister Carol Ann Silva. Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sandy, his parents, his brother Raymond Lamb, and sisters Joan Moore and Janice Smith.
To honor Gordon, a remembrance and celebration of his life will be held on August 19, 2023, at 11:00 am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice Care of the Low Country, an organization that provided essential and compassionate care for Gordon during his final days. Alternatively, contributions can be made to Carolina Poodle Rescue, a cause close to Gordon's heart, as he held a profound love for the poodles he shared with Sandy, namely Lucy, Smudge, and especially Ralph.
