Grace Hanson Sulak

September 20, 2001 — May 7, 2016

Grace Hanson Sulak, 14 of Bluffton passed away on May 7, 2016 as the result of an automobile accident in St. Matthews, SC. Grace was a beautiful young lady, inside and out, who had a love for her family that exceeded all. She was a very caring and compassionate person who always put the needs of others before her own. She was an eighth grader at River Ridge Academy. Grace exceeded academically, her name could always be found on the honor roll list. At River Ridge, Grace played basketball, a sport that she truly enjoyed, and one that her long arms (“long arm Grace”) came in handy for. She was proud to have received the MVP award for the season, but in typical Grace fashion, she told us that everyone on her team deserved that award, not just her. For a 14 year old, she was so humble in her accomplishments. As soon as Grace could walk, she was running. She was so proud to be a member of the Bluffton High School Cross Country and Track teams. She would set a goal for herself and then smile while she accomplished it. Grace could always be seen on the track cheering on her team and cheering the loudest for Emma. When it came to running there was no Emma without Grace, and no Grace without Emma. Grace was awful to wake up in the morning, a squirt gun was needed for coaxing. She loved her pets, ate ice cream almost every day and never understood why chocolate was not a breakfast option. Grace is survived by a very large extended family. Her twin sister Faith was her best friend and always by her side. She adored spending time with her cousins. Our annual family trip to Lake Lure and Thanksgiving at our house, with what seems like ½ the state of MA, brought her endless joy and happiness. Grace lived her life without borders, she always saw the best in a person and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Grace was the kind of young lady that anyone would be proud to call her daughter, sister, cousin, niece, granddaughter or friend. She touched everyone she encountered, our lives will never be as rich without her. We are so thankful to this community for the outpouring of love and support. We ask that everyone please pray for Emma and her Mother as they continue to recover, that is what Grace would want, that and one more chocolate bar. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Bluffton High School, Bluffton. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to Palmetto Animal League, where Grace could often be found with her friends trying to sneak one more pet home.
