Gregg Mather Weldon of East Windsor and Windsor Locks, CT and more recently of Bluffton, SC passed away Monday, October 14, 2024. Gregg fought a heroic battle with a severe infection, ultimately succumbing to the injurious effects of sepsis. Gregg graduated from East Windsor High School and spent his entire adult life in the fire sprinkler industry. He started as a Purchasing Agent, completed a four-year apprenticeship program and became a Fire Sprinkler Installer, and ultimately a Fire Sprinkler Inspector. He was in Local Union 669 until his disability and retirement in July of 2014. Gregg will be remembered for his social nature, his sense of humor and quick wit, and his generosity and desire to help others. Gregg also had amateur but impressive culinary skills and strong political convictions (which you likely heard about whether you wanted to or not!). “One Leg Gregg” as he would often introduce himself, met many a friend at his new home in South Carolina as he traveled the neighborhood on his scooter while walking his trusted golden retriever Nixon. Gregg embraced his new home, but CT still held a special place in his heart. He could often be heard as “One Leg Gregg from South Carolina” on WTIC 1080 talk radio programs. Gregg was also a UCONN men’s basketball fan from way back, and recently renewed his passion for that program even creating new UCONN fans in South Carolina. Gregg leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife of 36 years, Patricia (Hourihan) Weldon, of Bluffton, SC, his daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Jeffrey (JJ) Neilson and his beloved grandsons Gentry and Lawton Neilson, his son Mitchell Weldon, and his companion, Nixon. Gregg also leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Cathy Weldon of Boiling Springs, SC, his mother-in-law and her husband Jeannette and Dennis Ryan of Somers, CT, as well as his brothers and sisters-in law, Johnny and Marilyn Hourihan of Stafford Springs, CT and Tom and Kerry Hourihan of Fort Myers, Florida. In addition, Gregg leaves behind his nephews Stephen Hourihan, Geoffrey and Matthew Weldon, and Finnian Hourihan as well as his Aunt Gail Saxton of Gulf Shores, AL. Gregg was predeceased by his parents Howard and Marjorie Weldon, and his brother Gary Weldon, as well as his father-in-law John Hourihan and his brother-in-law Michael Hourihan. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors old and new. A celebration of Gregg’s life will be held at the convenience of the family. Although Gregg did not serve in the military, his mother, father, brother Gary and son Mitchell all served, and his son-in-law (and self-proclaimed best friend JJ) is a firefighter/paramedic. Gregg strongly believed in the mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org). Memorial donations can be made in his honor to this patriotic organization.
