Harvey Garbade "Hop" Lucas

Harvey Garbade (Hop) Lucas, 79 of Ridgeland, SC passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 in the Coastal Carolina Medical Center, Hardeeville, SC.He was born in St. George, SC on November 20, 1932. He was the son of the late Harvey W. Lucas and Pauline Garbade Lucas Davis.He retired from the US Department of Agriculture and Soil Conservation Service. He was a US Army veteran. He was the former Fire Chief for the Ridgeland Fire Department and volunteer for fifty years. He also served as coordinator of the Jasper County Fire Service for many years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and his family.He is survived by his wife, Celeste Taylor Lucas of Ridgeland, SC; three daughters, Bonnie L. (Bob) Shier; Paula L. (Bob) Willis and Katie L. (Garry) Richardson all of Ridgeland; one sister, Sherry D. (Pro) Herbert of Ridgeland; grandchildren, Jenny Shier (Ben) Heape, Jimmy Shier, Andrea Willis (Tony) Breton, Hogan Willis, Forrest Richardson and Emma Richardson; two great grandchildren, Lucas and Lillian Heape and one nephew, Mark Alexander.Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, May 4, 2012 at Ridgeland Cemetery, Ridgeland, SC. The family will receive friends from 6 til 8, Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland, SC.The family requests memorial gifts be made to the Ridgeland Fire Department, P.O. Box 1119, Ridgeland, SC 29936 in memory of Hop Lucas.
