Haskell Edward Owen, Jr, 89, passed away February 7, 2015. Born August 16, 1925, to Dell Crosby Owen and Haskell, Sr. in Jasper County, SC. He is predeceased by his son, Chip Owen, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Leva, and daughter, Cherry Hall and her children: Barbara Hall and her son Jack; Betsy Webster and her husband, Kevin, and their son Alex; Carter Hall; and Brenna Hall. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Owen.
After graduating from Murray Vocational High School, Charleston, SC.He was a WWII combat veteran on the Battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin in the Pacific.
He served 38 years in the Freight Traffic Department of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (Now CSX) throughout the southeast. He enjoyed many years of Bible Study and time spent at his cabin in South Carolina.
According to his wishes, there will be no service in Raleigh. Services will be held at Saul's Funeral Home, Ridgeland, SC at 2 pm, Tuesday, February 10 with visitation from 1 to 2. Services will be conducted by Reverend Thomas Terry. Burial will be immediately following the funeral service in Grimes Cemetery, Grays, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Barton Baptist Church TV Ministries, 1800 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27608 or to Transitions Life Care (Hospice), 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
