Hazel Lorene Gilbreath

January 31, 1925 — November 10, 2016

Hazel Lorene Gilbreath, age 91, transitioned to heaven on Nov. 10, 2016 at NHC in Bluffton, SC after an extended illness. Hazel was born Jan. 31, 1925 in Double Spring, AL to George and Annie Glover.

Hazel married the love of her life, Eldridge Gilbreath, May 30, 1943. She and El were married almost 70 years. She moved to Atlanta, GA in 1953. She was active in Columbia Drive Baptist Church for over 55 years. She was president of her garden club and enjoyed oil painting, reading, and family time. She had two children, David Frank and Cynthia Lynn. She was a supportive, devoted, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldridge, her son, David Frank, her daughter-in-law, Faye, and her brothers Horace and Melvin Glover.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Lynn Barton and son-in-law Jack Barton, of Bluffton, SC, grandson Michael Theron Keen, granddaughter Melanie Michelle Ford, her husband Mark, great-grandsons Andrew and Nathan, and great-granddaughter Haley. She also leaves behind grandson Harry Key and his wife Becky, great-grandson Derek, great-granddaughter Lauren Hyatt and her husband Christian and great-great granddaughter Lily. She is also survived by granddaughter Kristi Parker, her husband Chris, great-grandson Christopher, and great-granddaughter Kayla.

A memorial gathering will be held at Lake Spivey Golf Club in Jonesboro, GA, Thurs., Dec. 1 at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Hazel’s name to Hebron Colony Ministries, 356 Old Turnpike Rd., Boone, NC 28607 or donate online at www.hebroncolony.org.
