Hector Reinaldo Torres Prendes, 82 years old of Bluffton, SC and formally of Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, and Havana, Cuba, died of cancer, Tuesday, December 19, 2023 in his home.
Hector, also known as Coco, was born October 6, 1941 in Havana, Cuba, the son of Roberto Torres Llorens and Paulina Prendes Orrantia.
Hector immigrated to New York at the age of 14. As a young adult, Hector worked as a cabinet maker. He met and married Antonia Maria Lugo-Fernandez. Together, they had a baby girl, Pauline, named after her paternal grandmother. Hector also worked at a jewelry store and later in a hospital lab at Colombia Presbyterian Hospital. On the weekends, Hector liked to play baseball - his position was pitcher. Hector was a big Dodgers fan, ever since they played in Brooklyn.
After retiring, Hector moved to Puerto Rico and helped his daughter raise his granddaughter, Samantha. Pauline and Samantha moved to Bluffton in 2013, and Hector later joined them after hurricane Maria displaced him in 2017.
Hector is survived by his daughter, Pauline Torres of Bluffton; one granddaughter, Samantha Lugo Torres of Bluffton; two sisters, Nancy Vazquez of NY and Basilia Dorsey of CT; two brothers, Walter Torres of CT and Eduardo Quintela of FL; many nieces and nephews including a great-nephew, Steven Feldman.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Roberto Torres Prendes and his stepmother Nery Torres.
Hector did not wish to have any services. He did request to be cremated and taken to a beach in Puerto Rico.
