Helen B. Glenn

October 21, 1924 – October 10, 2026

Helen B. (Gordon) Glenn, born October 21, 1924, in Dundee, Scotland, to parents Anthony and Jessie Gordon, immigrated to America early in her childhood with her two brothers and a baby sister, all on their mother’s passport, joining their father in Hempstead, N.Y.

At age 18, Helen married Albert “Goldie” Glenn. They raised four daughters; Barbara Scheriff, Carolyn Sielski, Donna Williams, and Dale Deatley.

“Goldie’s” service in the U.S. Navy during World War II resulted in the family relocating to several states, including Florida and Washington, D.C.

Helen had a passion for dance, which she developed further by attending American Ballet Theatre classes in New York City and receiving a teaching certificate, which led to opening a dance studio for aspiring students in Setauket, N.Y.

The Glenn family relocated to Savannah, GA, when “Goldie” accepted a position as president of Gulfstream Aerospace. Helen involved herself in the arts community by supporting the Savannah Symphony Orchestra and the Savannah Ballet, where she used her sewing skills to mend and create costumes, and her dance background to perform on stage. Helen was a seamstress who created prom dresses and wedding gowns for her four daughters. She also produced beautiful needlepoints and knitted many pairs of mittens, which she donated to children she didn’t even know.

As a committed volunteer for most of her life, she and “Goldie,” as a team, supported Habitat for Humanity and the Thornwell Orphanage in Clinton, S.C. They also were loyal members of the First Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head Island and supported many endowments there.

Helen was a zealous advocate for healthy living through exercise and diet throughout her life, including attendance at Pilates classes into her 90s!

She also was a gourmet cook and won a Martha Stewart competition for her delicious white chocolate lemon bombe cake.

Helen passed on October 10, 2026, after a brief illness, just short of her 102nd birthday. Her life’s journey ended peacefully as she wished, sleeping in her own bed and surrounded by family, with a peaceful expression on her face. Surely, a life well spent!

Survivors include her four daughters, son-in-law Joe Sielski, eight loving grandchildren, and ten adoring great-grandchildren.

A memorial service honoring her memory will be held at a future date.
