Helen C. Godwin, 82, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Fort Washington, MD died Wednesday, April 16, 2014.
Mrs. Godwin was born in Belknap, IL on July 9, 1931, the daughter of the late Guy Casper and Essie Marlman Casper. She was a graduate of St. Luke's Nursing School in St. Louis, MO and practiced as a Registered Nurse for many years. She was a member of Okatee Baptist Church and attended Lowcountry Community Church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.
Mrs. Godwin is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Charles R. "Dick" Godwin; son, David Brent Godwin of Gambrills, MD; daughter, Barbara Grossmiller and husband William John Grossmiller, IV of Bowie, MD; brother, Guy Casper and wife Jo of Belknap, IL; sister, Ellen Walker of Mt. Vernon, IL; grandchildren, William John Grossmiller, V, Sarah Maher, Ashley Grossmiller, Phillip Grossmiller, Matthew Godwin, David Godwin, and Emma Godwin; and great-grandson, William John Grossmiller, VI.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 21, 2014 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton officiated by Rev. Robert Wagner of Grace Brethren Church of Calvert County, MD. Burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
As Mrs. Godwin was a faithful volunteer with Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, memorial donations may be made to Hospice in lieu of flowers or to any charity of choice.
