Helene Morgan Benson, 65, died Tuesday September 15th while on a cruise. She was a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a resident of Hardeeville, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Woodlawn High School and Northwestern State University in Louisiana and Spring Hill College in Alabama. She held Masters degrees in Elementary Education and Theology. She moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi after completing her bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate, where she taught at Saint Frances Xavier Elementary school and later served as director of religious education for St. Michael Catholic Church in Vicksburg. Upon her retirement, she and her husband relocated to Hardeeville, South Carolina and enjoyed an active life, especially enjoying cruising and socializing with new friends in their community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Falcon and Nancy Morgan of Baton Rouge. She is survived by her husband, Richard Benson Jr of Hardeeville; two children, Christin Benson (Shawn Carter) of Ponchatoula, Louisiana and Stacy Benson (Chris Gorman) of Las Vegas, Nevada; 5 grandchildren, 4 Great grandchildren; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Molly and David Gautreaux, and Erin and Mark Vignes, Cynthia and Brian Southern, Anita and Tom Axt; sister Karen Benson; one brother and his partner, Kevin Morgan and Jonathan Timken; and step-brother Scott Seymour; Father in Law, Richard Benson Sr of Savannah GA: ten nieces and nephews and many beloved cousins. 

Funeral services are being held as follows: Visitation on Wednesday, September 23rd from 4pm – 6pm at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC; Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 24th at St. Anthony’s Mission in Hardeeville, SC at 10:30am (with reception to follow), and family burial at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC on Friday, September 25th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Morgan and Braud Memorial Trust at Vicksburg Catholic School, Vicksburg, MS.
